Canal Cottage is located on the northwest corner of Black Lake, Cheboygan, Mi.

Black Lake is one of Michigan's best fishing and recreational lakes.

Canal Cottage is hard to describe - it is truly a special place - once you see it you’ll know why.

The cottage is uniquely located in a very natural and undeveloped setting. The cottage is on Black Lake, and is also on the north side of a private canal off the lake. In addtion there is an island 100 feet off the shoreline in front of Canal Cottage.

All day long, and especially in the morning, you will be treated to a symphony of bird songs. Your neighbors at Canal Cottage are the swans on the island (this year 3 baby swans), loons and a couple families of ducks. Your other neighbors in the canal are the fish, frogs, and turtles.

The cottage is located on the north side of the canal and the south side is all natural, and provides a picturesque view. It would be hard to find a more peaceful lake cottage in all of Northern Michigan. The abundance of natural wildlife at your doorstep provides a constantly changing but peaceful panorama.

Canal Cottage is very comfortable by any standards, and has actually served as a comfortable year round home. The cottage sleeps five or six easily and has:

• two bedrooms – one with a double bed and the one with two single beds - a pullout sleeping couch in the living room.
• a newly remodeled bathroom.
• an updated kitchen/eating area with stove/refrigerator/dishwasher - the kitchen is fully appointed with all the cooking items & appliances one could imagine.
• there is a large laundry room with a washer & dryer and lots of storage space for all kinds of “good stuff”
• there is a gas fireplace in the living area for colder evenings.
• the cottage has cable television, but who needs that up north except perhaps on a rainy day or in the evening.
• there is also a nice fully windowed sun porch that is a great spot for just sitting and looking out, for reading or napping and on cool evenings there is a Hearthstone gas heater on the porch to enjoy.
• there is a nice front deck.
• there is a row boat and oars if one is inclined to row out around the island and maybe fish or just take a boat trip.
• there is a great old shed beside the canal with lots of “good stuff inside ” that we invite guests to use if they desire - fishing poles and tackle and some hand tools – all we ask is that you treat the items like they are yours and that you return them neatly where you found them.
