Black Lake is located in Grant and Waverly Townships, Cheboygan County and in Bearinger and North Allis Townships, Presque Isle County, Michigan. It is the eight largest lake in Michigan having a surface area of 10,130 acres (25,031 hectares). The maximum depth of Black Lake is 50 feet (15.3 meters) with a mean depth of 24.6 feet( 7.5 meters). Black Lake has two major inlets, the Upper Black River and the Rainy River, and one outlet, the Black River, which drains into the Cheboygan River.
